Constitution of the Association

Article 1: Name

The name of the organization shall be the Manitoba Association of Plant Biologists

Article 2: Object

The objectives of the association shall be:

  • to promote the study and understanding of plant biology in Manitoba;
  • to identify, and improve communication between, plant biologists in the province;
  • to arrange for the exchange and dissemination of botanical information;
  • to be able to provide a science-based response on plant-related issues; and
  • to provide assistance in developing plant biology topics for the school curriculum.

Article 3: Membership

Full membership shall be open to those with formal training in plant biology, i.e. those with a Bachelor's degree (Hons or Major), or an advanced degree in such areas as Botany, Plant Ecology, Plant Science, Agronomy, Forest Biology, Horticulture, or similar plant-related fields.

Associate membership shall be open to all who do not meet the formal degree requirement including undergraduate students in such areas as Botany, Plant Ecology, Plant Science, Agronomy, Forest Biology, Horticulture, or similar plant-related fields, and those who have acquired their knowledge and expertise through interest or on-the-job training. Associate membership shall bring the same rights and privileges as full membership except for voting privileges at general or special meetings.

Applications for full and associate membership shall be submitted to the board member responsible for membership. Renewals may be approved automatically by this board member, but new member applications will be sent to the board for review and recommendation to the executive for final decision.

Article 4: Executive

The executive of the association shall consist of the president, vice-president, immediate past president, secretary and treasurer.
